Our Top Tip – The first burn is the most crucial burn.

Burn baby burn! The very first burn is by far the most important. Why? Your candle has wax memory – just like muscle memory. The general rule of thumb is that you light the candle one hour per it's diameter. Otherwise, wait until the wax has melted the entire way across the candle and you have a nice, liquid- wax pool. Snuff the candle out and allow the wax to cool. This way you won’t be getting any funnelled candles any time soon.

Besides the first burn, it is recommended that you don’t leave a candle burning for more than three hours. Why, you ask? It has no new or stronger scent. You are simply wasting wax.

Extra Special Tip: If you don’t have any long matches or a barbeque lighter to light your candle, use a raw piece of spaghetti – life hack

Tip Two – Storage is no snore.

It’s best to keep your candles in a cool, dark place and covered. So, please keep them in their packaging. If not, try and use their cover to stop the dust settling on top of it. If it does get a little dusty, use a warm dampened cloth to wipe it away – it’ll be looking good as new.

Once you’ve had your first burn, your candle normally lives there until it’s run out. Well, beware of warm sunny days and window sills. Soy wax is softer than other standard waxes, hence on those warmer days its normal for them to look a little sweaty. Try and keep it out of the sun but do not fret! Your candle will set again and go back to normal for your next burn.

This is one for the scientists – apparently, if you keep your candle in the fridge or freezer it will give your candle a slow and even burn. I haven’t tried this one out … yet. But I have my suspicions this is much like how they say to keep your jeans in the freezer. But please, be my guest, try it out.

Tip Three- Sometimes, your candle just needs a quick haircut.

Just like how we have personal maintenance, so does your fussy little soy wax friend.

Keep those wicks at 7mm after very single burn. Invest in wick trimmers (like fancy hair scissors) so the chopped wicked doesn’t end up in your candle – no one wants a sooty centre. Otherwise, hold it upside-down until the leftover wick falls out. This will give you a cleaner and brighter burn without the fireworks, and you prevent those mushrooms from forming on top.

The longer your wick is, the quicker it will burn. It also prevents black smoke from occurring and stops the glass from overheating. Make sure you re-centre your wick after each burn. It prevents soot stains forming on the glass.

Clean any blackened glass with a wet cotton pad and soapy water. Dry the candle properly before lighting it againDo not continue to use a candle container that is burnt, chipped or damaged as it can be a fire hazard.

Some Safety Tips and thNitty Gritty. I don’t want to be the candle police, but please. Don’t burn down your curtains. Please read our full set of Candle care Intructions for your beauty's got soul. candles below and shop our full range of Mini and Maxi Candles here.

Candle Safety and Candle Care instructions

The most important safety instruction is to never leave a burning candle unattended.

Never use water to extinguish a candle.

Ensure wicks are upright and trimmed to 7mm during use and every time time candle is relit.

Do not burn for less than 1 hour or more than 3 hours at a time.

Stop burning when 15mm of un-melted wax remains in the bottom of the glass.

Never move a burning candle. Ensure candle is extinguished, wax is solid and jar is cold before handling.

Glass may become hot. Burn candle on an appropriate flat heat-resistant surface.

Avoid using in drafty areas, near an open window, air duct or fan.

Keep away from children, pets and flammable materials.

Prevent soot from forming on the glass by keeping wicks properly placed and trimmed.

Never allow the candle flame to come in contact with the side of the glass.

Do not use if glass is cracked, chipped or broken.

If candle has multiple wicks, they must all be lit every time the candle is used.

Never introduce liquids or foreign objects into candle and keep it free of wick trimmings, matches and any flammable materials.

If the glass becomes blackened while burning, extinguish candle, allow to cool and clean with a dry paper towel.

When not in use, keep candle covered to avoid dust build-up.

Use a candle snuffer to properly extinguish a candle flame. If not available, blow gently and steadily on the flame until it is extinguished.
